Yeshua, the Word, descends twice

John 1:1,14, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with GOD, and the Word was GOD… And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

These are amazing statements made by the apostle John! To begin his composition of the good news of Yeshua the Messiah he connects the Word of GOD with GOD Himself. I wonder if we truly grasp the significance of such a thought. Yeshua tells us that our words come “out of the overflow of the heart” (Luke 6:45). The things that we say are an audio representation of the character and essence of what we hold in the deepest part of our being called the heart. Think of what that means for the words of our Heavenly Father that we have recorded in the Bible. The words of GOD on the parchment of the Scriptures are the written representation of His heart. What the apostle John is making clear in the opening lines of his gospel is that Yeshua, the Word made flesh, is the human representation of the heart of GOD. It is little wonder then how easily Yeshua could use the Word to interpret for His disciples, “all the things concerning Himself beginning with Moses and all the Prophets” (Luke 24:27). He IS the Word! The Scriptures are therefore replete with prophetic illustrations which point to Him. Below is only one such example which the Lord gave me the other day.

Yehovah, the creator of heaven and earth, redeemed His people out of Egypt and led them to Mt Sinai where He taught them His Word. However, since the people were afraid and did not trust GOD, He chose His servant, Moses, to intercede for the people. While on Mt Sinai, the LORD wrote His Word on tablets of stone and gave them to His servant before he descended the mountain to the people. But when Moses neared the camp he heard the sound of revelry. The people had resorted to idolatry and sinned against their Savior. Throwing the tablets to the ground, the Word of GOD was broken because of the peoples’ sin. Moses ascended Mt Sinai for another period of time and again received the Word written on stone by the finger of GOD. And carrying the tablets a second time in his hands, the Word of GOD descended once again. Upon this descent, however, Moses’ face shone with radiant light and he brought with him a message of rest and then Lord’s desire to fellowship intimately with His people.

Now consider the parallels:

We all have the same lack of trust-

Psa 14:2-4, Yehovah looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after GOD. They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one.”

We have all made our own idols:

Rom 3:23, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of GOD.”

We all require that GOD provide a solution:

Rom 6:23, “The wages of sin is death but the gift of GOD is eternal life in Messiah Yeshua our Lord.”

The Word of GOD is broken because of our sin:

Isa 53:5, “But He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities;

upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with His wounds we are healed.”

1Cor 11:24, “and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of Me.”

The Word of GOD will descend a second time:

Acts 1:11, “and said, ‘Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Yeshua, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.’”

The radiant face of the Word of GOD:

Rev 1:12-16, “Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around His chest. The hairs of His head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, His feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and His voice was like the roar of many waters. In His right hand He held seven stars, from His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and His face was like the sun shining in full strength.”

The Word of GOD brings a message of rest and fellowship

Matt 25:34, “Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.’”

1 Thes 4:16-17, “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of GOD. And the dead in Messiah will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.”

The Word of GOD is life-giving:

Deu 32:46-47, “He said to them, ‘Take to heart all the words by which I am warning you today, that you may command them to your children, that they may be careful to do all the words of this law. For it is no empty word for you, but your very life, and by this word you shall live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess.’”

John 10:10, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

The Word of GOD is unchanging:

Heb 13:8, “Yeshua Messiah [the Word of GOD made flesh] is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

Bless Yehovah for the Word of GOD, both written in the scroll and taking human form as Yeshua Messiah, for His Word is a gift from the heart of our Heavenly Father which gives life to His people! Amen.
